Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from the 4-10 region of the adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), with a terminal Pro-Gly-Pro modification that significantly extends its half-life. It was developed at the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the 1980s and is one of the most widely studied peptide nootropics in the scientific literature.
Molecular structure:
Unlike full ACTH, Semax lacks activity on the adrenal cortex, which eliminates effects on cortisol and aldosterone, leaving only neuroactive action.
Reconstitution Add 2 ml of bacteriostatic water to the 10 mg vial. Concentration: 5,000 mcg/ml. Each U-100 unit delivers 50 mcg.
Routes of administration
Typical layouts:
Excellent safety profile documented in decades of Russian clinical use. Rare adverse events: local nasal irritation with prolonged intranasal use, mild headache, insomnia if administered late in the day.
